THE #TWITTERCOO ANNOUNCES HIS #RESIGNATION IN A TWEET.

Just one day after a Re/Code report on potential shakeups in Twitter’s executive offices, the social media company’s chief operating officer, Ali Rowghani, has announced his departure. He did so with a tweet, of course.

His goodbye tweet has been retweeted more than 355 times and favorited more than 500. Twitter CEO Dick Costolo replied:
Though its woes haven’t been as well documented as Facebook’s, Twitter has been having some struggles as of late.

For one thing, its user base has been declining at a rapid rate over the past three years or so. User growth was one of Rowghani’s key responsibilities, which is probably one reason for his exit. SocialTimes reports that executives weren’t happy about a recent $10 million stock sale Rowghani made, either, and a Wall Street Journal profile that mistakenly called him “co-CEO” wasn’t well received.

Apparently Rowghani isn’t going very far, though. An SEC filing states he will remain an adviser to Costolo. And hey, maybe the CIA needs someone to manage its new Twitter account.
